description: A survey of the subtidal physical and biological features of the VEHEAP Harbours area (Victoria and Esquimalt Harbour, Gorge and Portage Inlet and Esquimalt Lagoon) with the intent of mapping the general distribution and position of physical and biological features for both inventory and harbour management purposes. The distribution of non-living organic material on the surface of the seabed, based on visual classification of each second of the video imagery for the survey area. Two types of organic material are distinguished in the classification database; Vegetative detritus (fragments of marine vegetation or occasionally material of terrestrial origin such as leaves) and Wood and bark debris (fragments of woody material generally associated with areas of current or former log storage areas). The organic material is classified visually and mapped in one of five cover categories. Cover Codes: 5-30% = sparse vegetative debris; 30-80% = low-moderate; >80% = dense; w5-30% = sparse wood; w30-80% = low-moderate; w>80% = dense; vegetation = Dense vegetation - substrate obscured; no survey
